Mitosis is a vital cellular process that results in a single cell dividing into two genetically identical daughter cells, each possessing the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell. This process is crucial for the growth, repair, and maintenance of tissues, as well as the perpetuation of life.

Sister chromatidsSister chromatids are the two replicated DNA-protein copies of one chromosome that remain linked after S phase until they separate at anaphase.

CentromereA centromere is the specialized chromosomal region where the kinetochore assembles and where sister chromatids remain most visibly joined before anaphase.

MetaphaseMetaphase is the mitotic stage in which duplicated chromosomes are bioriented on the spindle and positioned near the metaphase plate while the attachment checkpoint delays anaphase.
