IMAT 2026 Results: Cutoffs, Scores and Statistics
The IMAT 2026 results are out. I put the cutoffs in one place: the non-EU cutoffs from the universities’ own rankings and the EU first-round cutoffs, next to the seats, the past years and the national numbers. I’ll keep this page updated as the rounds move.

How to read the IMAT 2026 cutoffs
Leo walks you through the page in under a minute: what a cutoff is, why EU and non-EU differ, and how to check your own score.

Each row is one program: violet is its non-EU cutoff, teal its EU first-round cutoff. Move the line to a score and see where it would have cleared the cutoff.
A score of 73.0 is at or above the 2026 non-EU cutoff at 8 of 15 programs.

IMAT 2026 cutoffs and seats, university by university
The non-EU cutoff is the score of the last candidate admitted in each university’s own ranking. The EU cutoff is the lowest score admitted in the first round of the national ranking (26 October 2026), so it can still drop in later rounds. The change is against 2024 for non-EU and the 2025 first round for EU. Tap a column to sort.

How the IMAT cutoffs moved, 2023–2026
The line is the median cutoff each year; the shaded band runs from the lowest to the highest cutoff. Pick a university to draw its own line.
I used to show older scores here too, but the IMAT changed in 2023, when the Italian Ministry started writing it, so older scores don’t tell you much about today’s exam.
No non-EU point for 2025: the numbers I have for that year could not be confirmed against the universities’ lists, so I left them out. EU first-round cutoffs start in 2024, the first year I have them by round. Ranges and medians use confirmed cutoffs on campuses in Italy only.

Scores from the non-EU rankings the universities published. No names, only scores.
7,530 non-EU scores, in steps of 2 points · middle score 51.9
7,530 scores from 17 official non-EU lists (both Pavia lists and Tor Vergata's Tirana campus included). Someone on more than one list counts more than once, so this is not the number of people. 777 of these scores (10%) were 70 or higher; the lowest confirmed non-EU cutoff in Italy was 69.9.

What this means for IMAT 2027
Every year I get the same question the day the results come out: “what score do I need next year?” The honest answer is that nobody knows. Cutoffs depend on how hard the paper is, how many people apply and how many seats each university offers, and all three change every year. What I can give you is the pattern, and how I would prepare for it.
One number to keep in mind: the middle non-EU cutoff was 50.1 in 2023, the first year the Ministry wrote the exam, and 73.0 in 2026.
- Prepare every section. Biology and chemistry carry most of the points, so a gap there costs you the most. But with cutoffs this high, the questions that separate the ranking are often in math, physics and logic. In 2026, candidates averaged 25.8 of 34.5 points in biology, but only 6.9 of 19.5 in physics and maths (reported national averages).
- Practice on the real papers. The IMAT 2026 paper is in my past-papers archive. Sit it timed, then spend more time on what you got wrong than on what you got right.
- Look at seats, not only cutoffs. A university with more non-EU seats can have a lower cutoff in the same year. Choose with both numbers in front of you.
- Read the 2027 call when it is out. Dates, seats and rules change from year to year. I keep IMAT 2027 registration and the IMAT 2027 syllabus up to date.
If you want my help, my IMAT 2027 course is just below. If not, everything on this page and in the archive is free, and you can plan the year with my IMAT study planner.
IMAT 2026 results: your questions
When were the IMAT 2026 results published?
The anonymous IMAT 2026 scores were published on 8 October 2026. The first round of the national EU ranking came out on 26 October 2026. The Ministry’s decree scheduled the second round for 3 November 2026; candidates see each round’s result in their Universitaly reserved area. Most universities published their non-EU ranking as a PDF in the second half of October; Turin shows its list only inside each candidate’s private area.
What was the IMAT 2026 cutoff for non-EU students?
It depends on the university. Across the 14 programs at 13 universities in Italy with a confirmed non-EU cutoff, the last admitted score went from 69.9 (Bari and Catania) to 77.9 (Bologna), out of 90.
What was the IMAT 2026 first-round cutoff for EU students?
In the first round of the national ranking (26 October 2026), the lowest admitted score went from 65.1 (Cagliari) to 74.9 (Milano Statale). These are first-round numbers: they usually drop in the later rounds as candidates accept or give up their places.
How many students took IMAT 2026?
About 18,400. The Ministry's anonymous result lists have 18,368 rows, as counted by independent analyses; there is no official attendance figure yet.
How many places were there for IMAT 2026?
In English-taught Medicine at public universities, 1,207 places for EU candidates (and non-EU candidates living in Italy) and 845 for non-EU candidates living abroad, of which 320 are at Tor Vergata's new campus in Tirana, Albania. Dentistry has its own places on top of these.
What is the difference between the EU and the non-EU cutoff?
EU citizens, and non-EU citizens who live in Italy, are ranked together in one national ranking with several rounds, so their cutoff moves from round to round. Non-EU candidates who live abroad compete for a separate, smaller number of seats, and each university draws up its own ranking for them.
Will the EU cutoffs go down after the first round?
Usually, yes. In 2024, at 7 of the 7 programs where I have both numbers, the final EU cutoff was lower than the first-round one, by 0.3 to 2.6 points. How much it moves depends on how many admitted candidates give up their place.
What is the highest possible IMAT score?
90. The paper has 60 questions: a correct answer is worth 1.5 points, a wrong answer costs 0.4, and a blank answer is 0.
Sources and updates
The cutoffs, seats and dates on this page come from official documents: the Ministry’s decree and calendar, and the universities’ own rankings. The EU first-round cutoffs and the national statistics are not published openly by the Ministry, so they come from independent reports that I cross-checked; they are marked as such. A non-EU cutoff that other IMAT sites reported from a copy of a university’s private list is marked too. A number I could not confirm is either marked or left out. Last updated 4 November 2026.
