Last year’s exam · IMAT 2026
48 of the 60 IMAT 2026 questions were already in my course.
I put the real exam questions next to mine, side by side, so you can see for yourself.
The real IMAT 2026 paper, 60 questions in exam order: 48 were already in my course, 8 of them almost identical to questions in my question bank, 38 with a similar question and 2 taught in a lesson. 12 had no close match.
Italian Ministry Era (2023–2026)
These papers reflect the current blueprint. Prioritize them for pacing practice and timing rehearsals.
IMAT 2026 Past Paper PDF
60 questions · 100 minutes · 11 pages · 327 KB
The newest official paper, sat on 29 September 2026. Same 60-question layout as 2025: 4 reading, 5 logic, 23 biology, 15 chemistry and 13 physics & maths questions, with the correct answer highlighted.
Key: option A is correct (Form A)
How to use this paper
Save it for a full timed mock in your final weeks: it is the closest paper to the one you will sit. Then compare your section scores with your 2025 run.
IMAT 2025 Past Paper PDF
60 questions · 100 minutes · 11 pages · 174 KB
First full ministry-led blueprint with integrated reasoning focus. Expect question phrasing similar to 2024 but with firmer topic distribution.
Key: option A is correct (Form A)
How to use this paper
Use as your final dress rehearsal: replicate timing and log question IDs inside the simulator to unlock adaptive revision.
IMAT 2024 Past Paper PDF
60 questions · 100 minutes · 11 pages · 85 KB
Second ministry-written paper that surprised students with friendlier wording but strict timing. Ideal reference for the current format.
Key: option A is correct (Form A)
How to use this paper
Run twice: the first pass open book for blueprint familiarity, the second under exam conditions with the EMS simulator timing controls.
IMAT 2023 Past Paper PDF
60 questions · 100 minutes · 16 pages · 272 KB
First year after Cambridge: softer difficulty but new quirks in wording and topic distribution. Use to calibrate expectations.
Key: option A is correct (Form A)
How to use this paper
Compare with 2024 and 2025 to see how Italian-written logic questions differ. Focus on pacing, not just accuracy.
Cambridge Era (2011–2022)
Cambridge designed these exams with harder logic puzzles. Use them sparingly for extra practice once you've mastered the Italian-style papers.
The 2011 to 2020 papers carry a © UCLES notice, and 2022 a © Cambridge University Press & Assessment notice. All stay free to download, as they are today.IMAT 2022 Past Paper PDF

IMAT 2011 Past Paper PDF
80 questions · 437 KB · answer key 43 KBThe original 80-question format. Straightforward wording and lower difficulty.
How to use this paper
Reference only. Great nostalgia piece but not indicative of the current exam.
What is Form A?
You might notice some past papers labeled as "Form A." This simply means that the correct answer for every question on that paper is option A. It's a rearranged version of the original exam where the answer choices have been reordered so that the correct answer is always in position A, making it easier to check your work.
Leo's Tip
Form A papers are great for self-study since you always know the correct answer is A. Focus on understanding why A is correct rather than just memorizing answers!
Cambridge Era vs Italian Ministry Era
The IMAT has gone through a major transformation. Understanding the difference between these two eras is crucial for planning your preparation strategy.
Cambridge Era
- ▸Harder critical thinking puzzles
- ▸Complex problem-solving (spatial, logic)
- ▸Questions took 3–5 minutes each
- ▸Lower cutoff scores (harder exam)
Italian Ministry Era
- ▸English comprehension focus
- ▸Calculation-heavy chemistry/physics
- ▸Questions take 30 sec–2 min each
- ▸Higher cutoff scores (easier questions)
My recommendation: Start with the 2023–2026 papers to master the current format. Use Cambridge-era papers later for extra logic practice. They're great for building stamina, but don't let the different question style confuse you about what to expect on test day.

Section-by-Section Strategy
Key takeaways for Logic & Reading, Biology and Chemistry, each with its full guide.
Each section of the IMAT requires a different approach. I've written detailed guides for each. Here are the key takeaways to keep in mind while practicing with past papers.
Logic & Reading
Since 2023, the logic section shifted from complex critical thinking puzzles to English comprehension and quick inference questions. Grammar questions are now common: essentially free points if you're comfortable with English.
- •Focus on passage comprehension, not abstract puzzles
- •Practice frequency tables and basic probability
- •Learn conditional logic (If P then Q, contrapositive)
Biology
Biology is your gold mine: the largest section with the most straightforward questions. IMAT 2024 focused on cell structure, bioenergetics, and basic genetics. Don't skip the fundamentals thinking they're “too basic.”
- •Cell membrane, mitosis/meiosis are recurring favorites
- •Know the central dogma inside out
- •Don't neglect basic physiology (heart, nephron, neurons)
Chemistry
The new IMAT chemistry is calculation-heavy. You'll need to solve stoichiometry, gas laws, and equilibrium problems quickly without a calculator. Memorize the formulas and practice mental math.
- •Acid-base, redox, and equilibrium are high-yield
- •Know organic functional groups and nomenclature
- •Practice calculations without a calculator!
Practice with IMAT 2023–2026 Style Questions
Past papers are precious. Don't burn through them before you're ready. My ministry-style practice questions, made to mirror the 2023–2026 format, open later this year, so you can build your skills on them before you attempt the real exams.
- IMAT-style questions open later this year
- Then you can track your progress and weak spots
- Flashcards from your mistakes will come with them
How to Use Past Papers Effectively
A three-stage plan, from untimed exploration to full simulations, and the most common mistake.
Past papers are your most valuable resource, but only if you use them right. Here's my recommended approach:
Weeks 1–4: Untimed exploration
Skim Italian-era papers without timing to understand vocabulary, question structure, and topic distribution. Don't solve them yet. Just get familiar.
Weeks 5–8: Half-length drills
Practice logic + one science section timed. Log every mistake in a notebook or spreadsheet. Identify patterns in what you're getting wrong.
Final month: Full simulations
Run complete exams weekly under test conditions. Alternate between the 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 papers. Save at least one for the week before the exam.
Common Mistake
Don't burn through all past papers in your first month of studying! Many students waste them before they've learned the material. Use the simulator and question banks first, then save real past papers for when you're closer to test-ready.
University Cutoff Scores & Seats
Knowing the cutoffs helps you set realistic goals. Seats and cutoffs change every year, so each university page shows the latest numbers with their sources.
